Remodeling your Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most remodeled parts of the house. It has evolved from a place strictly for food preparation to a place where friends and family gather. Interior design for kitchen is a daunting task especially if you think about how much it will cost. However, there are things you can do to give your kitchen a new look without spending as much.

  1. Change the colors of your walls. When people talk about kitchen remodeling, changing old appliances and cabinets automatically comes into mind. While it would be wonderful to have a new fridge, that is not necessary.  What you can do instead is change the color of your walls. If you have a limited space in the kitchen, you can choose bright colors such as yellow to make the room appear larger. The best type of paint to use in the kitchen is latex satin enamel with little or no gloss. Be sure to purchase paints from a trusted brand because it is likely that your walls need to be cleaned often. You want to make sure that it does not fade easily.
  2. Change the colors of the cabinets and cupboards. If getting new cabinets are out of your budget, you can opt to repaint them with a glossy white or off white paint. This will give your cabinets a modern look. To complete the look, change the front into glass panes and keep brightly colored dishes behind the frosted glass. Change the old hinges and handles into stainless steel materials that you can easily get from the hardware.
  3. Changing the countertops into custom made marble can be very expensive. What you can do instead is install a tile countertop and match it with a lovely backsplash. Home improvement stores have a great selection of ceramic tiles that you can use to give your countertop a well deserved makeover.
  4. Changing the flooring might also come into consideration. This may take a few days and a lot of hard work. If you are not familiar with installing tiles, you can have a professional do it. You may think that it will cost a fortune. However, if you factor in all the expenses in your kitchen make over compared to the usual kitchen renovation; you will find that you are still able to make a good savings of thousands of dollars. You can choose ceramic tiles to go with your backsplash. If you want cheaper alternatives, you can go for vinyl tiles or linoleum.
  5. The sink may also need a make over. If they don’t look very old and worn, instead of changing the entire piece you can replace the faucet into stainless steel faucets that have a swan like spout and elegant handle.
  6. Lighting in the kitchen is also very important. Use natural light from the windows to its maximum potential by getting rid of the heavy and dark curtains. Replace them with sheer airy fabrics. Install artificial lights from the ceiling to the cabinets. For a centerpiece, you can get a ceiling fan with bright halogen bulbs to fill the kitchen with warm bright lights.
